Here are ten things you need to know today:
1. Senate Leader, Ali Ndume, on Thursday advised President Muhammadu Buhari to order the prosecution of former President, Goodluck Jonathan if he (Jonathan) in any way directed the sharing of the $2.1bn given to former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, to buy arms. Ndume was speaking with journalists in Abuja. He also said the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, should be held responsible for any breakdown of law and order in the state.

2. Top civil servants who were involved in the padding of the 2016 budget were on Thursday‘axed’ by President Muhammadu Buhari. About 184 of them were demoted and transferred from the budget office to other establishments that have little or nothing to do with budget.


3. The Lagos State Police Command has disclosed that it has arrested the Managing Director of Lekki Gardens, Mr. Richard Nyong, following the collapse of a five-storeyed building on Kushenla Road, Ikate Elegushi, Lagos State, which killed no fewer than 35 persons. Report says Nyong was arrested on Thursday to explain what transpired.

4. The Senate, Thursday, showed support for the decision of the Federal Government to unbundled the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, saying the government did not breach the law establishing the corporation. The lawmakers consequently urged Nigerians to support the minister to succeed in solving the problems currently affecting the oil sector.

5. The Federal High Court in Abuja, Thursday, granted bail to the immediate past Chief of Defence Staff, CDS, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh (rtd), in the sum N2bn, and two sureties in the sum N1bn each who must reside in Abuja. Justice Okon Abang in his judgment held that the alleged offence was a bailable one, and that Badeh was presumed innocent until proved otherwise.

6. Report says that the trial of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, before the Code of Conduct Tribunal on 13 counts of alleged false assets declaration will commence today (Friday). According to the report, security around the CCT has been beefed up.


7. The Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, has chided the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Aremu Gbadebo for his ranking of Yoruba Obas, saying the ranking was self-serving, false and misrepresentation of facts. Awujale said the Alake was not higher than him in terms of ranking as he was only a junior traditional ruler in Yorubaland.

8. The Federal Government on Thursday afternoon announced the appointment of Dr Dakuku Peterside as the Director General of the Nigerian Maritime administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA). The announcement was contained in a statement signed by Yetunde Sonaike, the Director, Public Relations, Ministry of Transportation in Abuja. The appointment is with immediate effect.

9. The Management of the PPMC Thursday assured Nigerians of its commitment to put an end to the current fuel scarcity by making sure that there is adequate distribution of petroleum products nationwide. It said as at Friday, 228 trucks were dispatch from Suleja, Abuja city, while the outskirts and environs received 52 trucks.


10. The Central Bank of Nigeria said on Thursday night that it had uncovered and aborted a plot by some criminally-minded elements to defraud it. The bank disclosed further that it had placed all persons involved in the transaction on suspension so as to guarantee a full investigation into the matter. This was confirmed by the Acting Director, Corporate Communications, CBN, Mr. Isaac Okorafor. - Daily Post
