Female kidnapper nabbed in Lagos market - We were mandated to abduct 8 children for rituals

Ojuwoye-Market

A 22-year-old suspected female kidnapper, at the weekend caused a stir at Ojuwoye Market, in the Mushin area of Lagos State after she allegedly stole two children.
The mother of the children, simply identified as Modinat, is a trader in the market where the incident happened.
Modinat had laid her children, Hammed Rasheed, 6 and Farida Raheed, 2, on the floor and was attending to a customer when the suspect took them away.
The suspects used a piece of cloth on the floor to strap Farida to her back and held Hammed by the hand.
She was escaping from the vicinity when a vigilant resident, who knew Modinat was said to have challenged the suspect and raised the alarm when she could not give a satisfactory response.
An irate mob converged, rescued the children and beat the suspect to a pulp.
The suspect would have been lynched but for the intervention of policemen from the Olosan division.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, SP Dolapo Badmos, who confirmed the incident to newsmen said the suspect refused to disclose either her name or address, but that investigations were ongoing to ascertain that.
“At about 12pm on Saturday, two children were allegedly abducted by the suspect at Ojuwoye Market. However, the mother alerted the police. The kidnapper was trailed and arrested with one of the victims on her back.
”They were rescued and reunited with their family.”
Badmos said the suspect confessed that they were six of them recruited to kidnap children.
She said, “The suspect, who refused to give her name and address, is now in police custody and undergoing interrogation.
“She said they all came from Osogbo, Osun State, and were mandated to abduct eight children each for rituals and that she had already abducted six children and was about getting the remaining two when she was caught,” she added.
