Buhari Appoints Abike Dabiri As SSA… 6 Things You Should Know About Her Rise!!!



President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday approved the appointment of a former member of the House of Representatives, Abike Dabiri-Erewa, as Senior Special Assistant on Foreign Affairs and the Diaspora. From a newscaster to a lawmaker and now to a presidential adviser. Here are 6 interesting things you should know about Abike Dabiri…


1– Hon. Abike Kafayat Oluwatoyin Dabiri Erewa was born On 10th October 1962 to the family of Alhaji and Alhaja Ashafa Erogbogbo of Ikorodu.

2– Abike Dabire was elected for the first time in 2003, and re-elected in 2007 and 2011 as member of the Nigeria Federal House of Representatives representing Ikorodu Constituency in Lagos State.

3– Before delving into politics, Dabiri-Erewa worked for the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) for fifteen years, anchoring the weekly NTA Newsline programme and taking a particular interest in poverty and social justice issues. She retired from her position at the Nigerian Television Authority to stand for election in the House of Representatives.

4– She stood against the third term bid of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

5– In 2009, Dabiri-Erewa sponsored a bill before the Nigerian National House of Assembly that would grant the freedom to practice journalism only after obtaining certain qualifications. The bill received public criticism, and was seen as an attempt to gag the media.

6– The Diaspora Committee under her intervened to rescue 24 Nigerians slated to be executed in Libya, the committee under her leadership also intervened in reducing the menace of Nigerian prostituting in Italy, she equally made several interventions in India, China , Czech, China, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Cairo.
