One-day old baby abandoned near Government College, Katsina

An unknown woman on Monday abandoned a day-old baby girl near the main gate of Government College, Katsina.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the woman abandoned the baby about 300 meters away from Katsina Motherless Baby Home at the early hours of the day.

Eye witness said he heard the cry of the baby around 6:30 a.m.when he was passing, adding, “when we heard the cry of the baby, we rushed and found the young child wrapped inside a towel.

“We immediately alerted the ward head of Rafukka Quarters, Alhaji Ahmed Musa, who rushed to the scene of the incident.

“Musa and other concern persons took the baby to the village head of Eastern Katsina metropolis (Wakilin Gabas), Alhaji Muntari Aliyu.

When contacted, Aliyu said the baby was at his custody and would be taken to the office of the District Head for registration.

NAN reports that the baby was later taken to the motherless baby home for proper care. (NAN)

Four armed robbers killed in Lagos

The police in Lagos said that at least four suspected armed robbers have been killed in the last three weeks.

In addition, 37 armed robbery suspects, nine alleged kidnappers and 39 cultists were arrested during the period.

The disclosures were made by the state Police Commissioner, Fatai Owoseni, during a press conference at the command's headquarters. He said 20 different weapons with 30 rounds of live ammunition and 38 vehicles were recovered by the police.

Owoseni said the cultists' arrest followed intelligence report on their plan to wreak havoc across the state during “their Eight-Eight (August 8) celebration.”

“All police divisions were put on notice leading to their arrest. One of the groups was going to bury a dead colleague but in the process tried to attack Denton Police Station. But the DPO and his men arrested nine of them on the spot and 21 others were later arrested. Two others were at the Shomolu and Bariga axis,” he said.

Biafra: Jubilation as FG releases detained IPOB members

There was wild jubilation in the commercial town of Onitsha on Thursday after the federal government, through the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, released all members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, who have been in detention.

They were earlier arrested by various security agencies in Aba, Abia state, during their prayer rally in February.

A statement issued to newsmen Thursday in Onitsha, by IPOB’s Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful confirmed that their members had been released.

He said all IPOB members worldwide under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, the Director of Radio Biafra were commending the Attorney-General of the Federation, AGF and all those who had common sense to understand that all those arrested in Aba must be released.

Powerful described the freedom of their members as a good omen for the birth of Biafra.

Buhari ordered massacre of Shi’ites – IMN

The Islamic Movement in Nigeria, (IMN) also known as the Shi’ites has rejected the report of Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba led Judicial Commission of Inquiry, which probed the December 12-14 clash between Shi’ites and members of the Nigerian Army.

Speaking to newsmen on Thursday, Chairman, Free Zakzaky Campaign Committee, Abdurrahman Abubakar Yola said the ‘massacre’ of its members in Zaria was authorized by President Muhammadu Buhari.

The group alleged that, not only was President Buhari briefed ahead of the killings of its members, the President sanctioned and ordered it.

He said, “It seems fairly obvious that the Judicial Commission of Inquiry (JCI) was a typical commission with a pre-determined mandate and report. Consequently, we reject the report and its recommendations.”

On the allegation that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the alleged ‘killings’ of the Shi’ites members, Yola said, “Allegation of forming a parallel authority by the IMN is a time-long allegation.

“It was one that even President, Muhammadu Buhari mentioned with so much disgust and animosity during his maiden media chat. He repeated the same as reason why his government had to clamp down violently on the IMN while fielding questions on a foreign TV news channel in Qatar.

“It was also the clearest indication that the President was not only briefed about the clamp down, he sanctioned and ordered it.”
