What causes 'new car smell'?

There is nothing like new car smell. You probably wouldn't call it a fresh smell, but it's definitely an unused smell. No one else's funk has permeated the car; it's a blank slate for you and your very own funk. It smells like money — maybe like your first real job, or a graduation present, or a reward for your retirement. It might smell a bit like leather if you're fancy, or it might smell more like vinyl (before the kids have spilled who-knows-what on its easy-to-clean surface). Either way, it smells like you made a decision and committed the cash to paying for it over the next few years.

All of this is lovely, but what actually is new car smell? The truth is it's a far less romantic, yet still heady, mix of 50 to 60 volatile organic compounds, or VOCs,off-gassing in your car. (These are the same compounds that cause a greasy film to form on your car's windshield.) At new-car concentrations, these chemicals are not terribly dangerous, but they're not exactly aromatherapy, either. They do break down quickly, to the tune of about 20 percent decay every week, so the smell doesn't linger all that long. That's why we call it new-car smell, not car-I've-had-for-five-years smell.

As much as we love new-car smell, auto manufacturers are working to eliminate it. Not that they don't like the smell, but they'd rather not use the chemicals involved in the smell if they can help it. Automotive materials that include fewer VOCs, like soy-based foam seats cushions, don't off-gas quite so much, and they don't really have a smell. In fact, there may come a time when new-car smell is only available in a bottle. And if you're into that kind of thing, rest easy knowing that fragrance manufacturers aren't bottling up semi-dangerous VOCs. They're faking it, which is probably a good thing. That's the easy answer to the question.

After Sleeping With A Man In Abuja…She Later Dived in A Pool of Water

girl-drowning-wide-wallpaper-23417

A 17 year old girl, Miss Tessy tried to take her life after finding out that her sugar daddy who took her to an unnamed hotel in Abuja had infected her with the much dreaded HIV disease.
Staff of the said hotel who were perplexed when Miss Tessy suddenly ran out of her hotel room heading to the pool side, got the shock of their life when she dived into the deepest part of the pool and started drowning.
If not for the timely intervention of the swimming pool attendant, who also dived into the pool and rescued the girl, the story would have been different.
After she was rescued, she started shouting“Please leave me to die, I want to die” However, a staff of the hotel saw a phone in her jean trouser’s pocket, he took out the Sim card from the phone (which was obviously soaked with water) and inserted the Sim in his own phone. He called the first number on the Sim “Aunty Gloria” when the lady “Aunty Gloria” picked up the phone, she was informed about Tessy’s attempted sui cide and was asked to come and take her home as her condition was  now stable (after the first aid administered).
Furthermore, Tessy was interrogated on the reason for her action, she started crying and speaking at the top of her voice, that the man who brought her to the hotel had infected her with HIV.
She told the hotel staff and guests that were with her, that the man after having s3x with her told her that he wanted to go out and buy some fruits from a fruit market not too far from the hotel.
However, two hours later after the man left, he sent her a text message telling her that he has infected her with HIV, he told her that he was infected with HIV last year by a girl and that he will never go down alone.
On further interrogation, the girl said that she is only 17 years old and that she just met the man (Philip) two weeks ago and decided to follow him to the hotel on his invitation.
Some people advised her to go to the hospital and test for HIV before jumping into conclusion.
Others scolded her for trying to take her life over a matter she is not even sure of, they told her that even if the test is positive, that does not give her the right to want to take her life because there are so many people living with the disease and doing very well in life.

Valentine Stock PhotoHappy Couple In Love Showing Heart With Their Fingers Stock Photo

OK ladies it is time to step up your game and show the brothers that you are not only made to receive the best presents but can give some too. This time you should change the status quo from boxers and singlet to something more special and truth is, it is wouldn’t have to break the bank. It's a new year ladies, do something new, here are five amazing gifts you could get for your partner this season:

1. It is the era of wearing African attire. With the different styles of Danshiki available everywhere, why don’t you buy a good material, take it to any good male tailor you know around and have it sewn for him.

2. A nice pair of shoes: Just look closely at what he really likes, be it Chukkas, Loafers, sneakers, Birkenstocks etc. Just get him one of those and he (including you) will be happier for it.

3.Wristwatch: Most men love watches and you would score very high in his book, if you go all out and buy him a nice wrist watch this February 14th.

4. If your man is into playing games such as FIFA or PES, and you can afford it then you should  buy him the latest FIFA ’16 – Truth is, you would be the one begging him to go out sometimes because he would be spending a lot of time indoors.

5. Cologne: There are a lot of good brand out there that don’t cost too much. So why don’t you go to your favourite store this week and buy a good one for your man this Valentine.

Chilling pic shows 'demon' watching over unborn baby in ultrasound scan

A baby's ultrasound scan has gone viral and not for quite the right reasons. It seems there's more than just a baby in there and once you see it, you can't unsee it. At first sight, it looks like any other scan of an innocent foetus but look to the right of the photo and you'll get the chills. The eerie image was posted on imgur under the heading "A friend's ultrasound. When you see it...".

A grainy outline of what looks to be a woman has been spotted by many people who have looked at the picture. The picture has been viewed more than 500,000 times since being uploaded.

5 Childhood Christmas Memories Most Nigerians Can Relate To

1

Christmas is almost here and it looks like the older we get, Christmas just keeps getting less and less interesting. Before we grow too old and forget, here is to remind you how Christmas actually felt as a child. Here are those unforgetable Christmas memories, anyone who grew up in Nigeria in the 80’s and 90’s are very familiar with:

1. Recall the street vs street banger competition??? I’m sure a bunch of the guys won’t forget. Dangerously fun right? And parents especially moms would almost shout their gullets out.

2. Remember when people would take food from house to house and it would be your lucky day, if you are picked by mom to do the delivery because those neighbours would hand you crips N5, N10 or N20 notes.

3 Walking miles upon miles to visit relations – this journey is always in groups. You take your friends to your relatives’ house and they take you to theirs and in the evening when you get home, you count your fortune. The most important part of the day.

4. The traditional white rice and stew with the most delicious aroma and taste. Moms those days have a degree in this delicacy. You just keep eating until there’s no space in your stomach to harbour more food.

5. Someone from your house catching you eating at your neigbour’s house and going to report to your mom? The fear, the thoughts that run through your mind before you get home can not be out down in words.
Christmas those days were just heavenly!!!

Today In Nigerian History: 10th December

sosoliso_b7272

Today in 2005, A Sosoliso Airlines Flight 1145, from Abuja to Port Harcourt carrying 110 passengers crashed while landing during a storm in the city of Port Harcourt….

Some 107 people were killed including 71 children, and among those killed in the crash were popular Nigerian Pastor, Bimbo Odukoya and over 60 students of the Loyola Jesuit College, a Secondary school based in Abuja.
Following the unfortunate incident, former President Olusegun Obasanjo, who was president at the time, ordered all Sosoliso planes grounded.
It is 10years already but it seems just like yesterday, when Nigerians had to light candles for departed compatriots.
